Pepper Harrow welcomed an in form Tilford 2nds team who having won their last two games were keen to continue their run. The weather forecast didn’t look promising with grey skies but the game started with the hosts winning the toss on a green looking track and asking Tilford to bat. Openers Adi Walker and Martin Cantwell were quick to punish anything short but watchful of the new ball seaming around off the green surface. As a fine drizzle started all the bowlers struggled apart from M Wilson whose 8 overs for 26 looked good in the context of Tilford going along at 5 an over. Walker bought up his 50 before being bowled by change bowler Ben Elson (1-35). New boy Marc Chan (34*) arrived and looked positive from the outset, quick between the wickets and leading a charge after the 30th over with 80 runs coming off 7 overs. Cantwell bought up his century ending 113 not out as Tilford declared on 217-1 after 37 overs.
Tilford attacked from the start with Ben Mathews 1-14 and young Matt Bozier 0-21 off 9 overs testing the batsman, but it was once again the introduction of Ric (Rambo) Austin with his combination of swing, seam and his infamous grenades that wreaked havoc taking 6 wickets for 32 off his allocation. K Choudary (28) and M Wilson (23*) the only Pepper Harrow batsman to get going. Skipper Cantwell finished the innings bowling the last batsman and finishing with 3-7 and earning Tilford another 10 points.
Credit must be given to the Pepper Harrow boys for staying out and playing on through the drizzle that came and went throughout the afternoon.
