Despite losing the final game of the season to a strengthened Churt III, the newly formed TCC 3rd XI finished as Champions of I’Anson Division 7.
Bowling first, Vinoth and Fosten kept it very tight and Fossie was duly rewarded with 3 sharp c&b wickets and after 11 overs Churt had only scored 4 runs. However this brought a powerful middle order released from the Surrey Championship who plundered the Tilford attack and carried Churt to a challenging 208 in their 40 overs despite some excellent fielding, especially Tom Bussell who threw down the stumps from Tellytubby land to run out the dangerous Matt Crane.
In reply Tilford lost Bussell early but Knight and Sbresni kept the score board ticking along nicely with a combination of power and guile respectively. The strong Churt bowling made inroads throughout the innings and despite an excellent 67 from Sbresni and good contributions from the two MacDonalds they were not able to build the big partnership that was required. In the gathering gloom the new batsmen found it difficult to keep up with the run rate and Tilford ended 25 runs short.
Gill Rooney presented the Division 7 trophy to triumphant skipper Mark Bussell and a squad photo was taken to commemorate a magnificent first season for The Legends!
