The eagerly awaited start to the 2019 campaign saw Tilford complete a double-header against local rivals Grayshott.
At Grayshott, Tilford were inserted and made reasonable progress but lost key wickets until debutante Henry Clinton and Mark Ramesar came together in a 93 run partnership. This established a platform and when Ramesar fell Denis Hounsham picked up the batten with a quick fire 27 to power Tilford to an above par 230 with Clinton sadly falling 3 short of a century.
The result was quickly decided as Jason Stones cleaned up the Grayshott top order taking the first 5 wickets in rapid order. Stuart Kennedy and Kiaran Wells added some respectability and claimed two important bonus points with a 101 run partnership for the last wicket.
At Tilford Green, Tilford won the toss and elected to field. Veteran Knott produced a typically miserly spell of 9 overs 1 for 19 but the Grayshott batsmen applied themselves with experience belying their youth, Toby Joyce anchored the innings with 61 and they reached a challenging 194-6 from their 45 overs.
In reply, Cantwell and Bate got the Tilford score moving and Nesbitt and MacKay took up the baton before both falling with still some work to do. However, newcomer Tom Batchelor looked instantly at home and calmly took Tilford to a well timed victory by two wickets with one over to spare. Grayshott must rue the 39 extras conceded (top scorer!) which included 28 wides!
